Several years ago, Thomas Friedman of the<i>\u00a0New York Time<\/i>s\u00a0said, \u201cThis is not your parents\u2019 job market.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">The good news is, you\u2019re never too old to learn. The question is,\u00a0<i>how\u00a0<\/i>will you learn?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Community colleges have focused on experiential learning since their inception. Experiential learning is a hands-on approach to learning through experience and reflection. Students participate in job shadowing days, panel discussions, business etiquette luncheons, capstone projects, networking nights, employer site visits, and Work-Based Learning to complement the classroom environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">The benefits of this type of hands-on learning, according to Rob Franek, Editor in Chief of\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><i>The Princeton Review<\/i>, allow you to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Discover<\/span> what you love by going out into the world to see and be enmeshed in the environment you think you would like to work in.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Take<\/span> a risk by participating in an unpredictable environment where you can experience success and failure.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Learn<\/span> how to talk about your skills by reflecting on your experience and clearly understanding what your role would be on the team.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\">Start learning today. It\u2019s simple. Aristotle wrote in\u00a0<em>Nichomachean Ethics<\/em>, \u201cfor the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Volunteer<\/span> at a local non-profit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Ask<\/span> your kids to show you how to use an app on their electronics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Watch<\/span> the\u00a0Family Feud\u00a0and try a new recipe.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Spend<\/span> a day shadowing a friend at work.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans';\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Open Sans Bold';\">Take<\/span> an online class.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the world continues to advance technologically, the workforce will have a constant need for evolving skills.
