transfering

If your goal is a bachelor’s degree, success begins at York Tech.

Our University Transfer program gives you the opportunity to complete the first two years of your bachelor’s degree conveniently and affordably. Students in this program earn an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science Degree and are prepared for a smooth transition to the four-year college or university of their choice.

“York Tech instilled in me the confidence I needed to be successful as a student at Winthrop University,” said Arifah Robinson of Lake Wylie, a former University Transfer student. “I don’t think I would be as academically successful as I am now without the opportunity to develop my study skills before transferring.”

York Tech has launched the academic and career success of thousands of students. We can help you design a path to success that’s right for you.

Academic Excellence

Transfer courses you take at York Technical College are comparable to those offered by the four-year colleges, and you will learn from a highly qualified faculty in a small class setting.  Research shows that students who begin at two-year colleges perform as well or better than students who begin as freshmen at four-year colleges.

Fits Your Lifestyle

Many of the courses required for University Transfer can be taken in person on our main campus, online, or at one of our off-campus centers in Chester and Lancaster counties.

“Beginning at York Tech does not have to turn your life upside down,” said University Transfer student Mehul Patel. “It’s a great place to learn what you want, when you want to.”
York Tech also has agreements directly with many colleges in South Carolina that allow for a seamless transition. By working closely with your University Transfer advisor to select the right courses, you can design an individualized program for transfer to the four-year college of your choice.

Affordable

The University Transfer program also means big savings. York Tech’s tuition and fees are by far the lowest in the region. So if your goal is a bachelor’s degree, but you don’t want to break the bank to get it, attending York Tech for the first two years makes sense.

Road to Bachelor’s Degree is seamless with Winthrop Bridge

In June 2013, Winthrop University and York Technical College enhanced its already strong relationship by establishing a collaborative bridge program beginning this fall.  Beyond the guaranteed, simplified course transfer process provided under the existing articulation agreement, the bridge program offers students unprecedented access to Winthrop University campus resources, all while still attending York Tech.

Students enrolled in the Winthrop Bridge Program will have access to personal admission counselors, academic advisors, peer mentors and will have an early registration option at Winthrop. Students in this program also will enjoy access to sports and cultural events and Winthrop facilities, such as the Dacus Library, West Center for wellness activities, the Academic Success Center for tutoring and the Writing Center.

“Both Winthrop University and York Technical College are committed to students continuing to learn beyond high school in as seamless a way as possible to achieve their goals,” said Winthrop President Anthony DiGiorgio. “The Bridge Program offers particular students an opportunity to prove their academic potential by earning an associate’s degree, then build on that foundation to earn a bachelor’s degree in a more timely and cost-effective way.”

Years in the making, this bridge program is the capstone on a long standing, progressively growing relationship between the two institutions designed to expand options for students and maximize their ability to compete and thrive in today’s knowledge-driven economy.

In addition to the bridge agreement, and in honor of Dr. DiGiorgio’s 24 years of service as Winthrop University president, the two schools have established a scholarship program created specifically for students of the new Bridge Program.  The Dr. Anthony J. DiGiorgio Achievement Scholarship will award $1,200 annually to two students who, according to York Tech president, Greg Rutherford, “demonstrate the same type of spirit as Dr. DiGiorgio – an achiever, a dreamer, and a worker.”

This enhanced program is available to new students starting in Fall 2013.  Students interested in the Winthrop Bridge Program with York Technical College should contact the Winthrop Office of Admissions at 803-323-2191 or York Technical College Enrollment Services at 803-327-8008.
