COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY – NETWORKING

York Tech’s Associate Degree in Computer Technology with a Networking specialization, prepares students for entry-level network and computer systems administrator positions. Additionally, some of the degree coursework may be applied towards a four-year degree depending upon the requirements of the chosen college or university. Coursework prepares students to be able to install and support an organization’s computer systems as well as how to be responsible for local-area networks (LAN), wide-area networks (WAN), network segments, and Internet and intranet systems. Students also walk away with the skills to be able to maintain hardware and software, analyze problems, and monitor networks to ensure their availability to system users.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Students who graduate from York Tech’s Mechanical Engineering Technology program have the skills necessary to apply theory and principles of mechanical engineering to modify, develop, and test machinery and equipment under the direction of engineering staff or physical scientists. Graduates are prepared to obtain entry-level employment as mechanical engineering technicians. For those interested in furthering their education, York Technical College and South Carolina State University have an articulation agreement in place which allows our associate degree graduates to earn their bachelor of science in Mechanical Engineering Technology degree from SC State right here at York Technical College. Other institutions offering a bachelor of Engineering Technology degrees may also accept our associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology as the first two years of their bachelor degree programs.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

The work of automotive technicians has evolved over the years from basic mechanical repair to a high technology career. The automotive technology profession requires highly skilled and well-trained technicians who possess the knowledge and ability to work on vehicles that become more sophisticated every year. York Technical College has several options available within our Automotive Technology program that help students gain the skills necessary to obtain employment as Automotive Technicians. The Automotive Technology program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). Through our program students use high-tech skills to diagnose, adjust, repair, or overhaul automobiles and light trucks that run on gasoline, ethanol, and other alternative fuels such as electricity. The curriculum is set up to allow students to effectively utilize their skills and training in the field.

AIR CONDITIONING/REFRIGERATION MECHANICS

Our Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Mechanics program provides necessary training for the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) units. Students who take advantage of this program leave York Tech prepared to enter the workforce. Through our hands-on curriculum, students learn to maintain, diagnose, and correct problems throughout the entire HVAC system. They also learn to adjust system controls to recommended settings and test the performance of the entire system using special tools and test equipment. Many students specialize in either installation or maintenance and repair.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT

Construction projects require the talents of many skilled workers, from electricians, to carpenters, to plumbers. It takes a great deal of planning and organization to coordinate the many facets involved in the successful completion of a construction project. Our Building Construction Management program provides students with the necessary supervisory skills required to become a Site or Project Manager for residential building construction projects. Our students walk away with the skills to be able to coordinate and supervise the construction process from the conceptual development stage through final construction, making sure that the project gets done on time and within budget.

COMPUTER ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

Graduates of the Computer Engineering Technology program possess a broad understanding of all aspects of hardware and software for microprocessors and computer systems as well as a sound knowledge of basic electronics. Computer subject concentration areas include programming, CISCO networking, computer networking, and webpage design. This unique “electronics-plus-computer” curriculum prepares graduates for entry-level employment as Computer Engineering Technicians. For those graduates interested in furthering their education, some institutions offering a Bachelor of Engineering Technology Degree may accept the first two years of Electronics Engineering Technology toward that degree. The Computer Engineering Technology program is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.

ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY

The Electronics Engineering Technology program provides students with a solid foundation in basic electronics that can be applied in business and industry. The combination of classroom and laboratory learning ensures that students gain hands-on experience with the latest and most modern test equipment. Associate degree graduates are well prepared for entry-level positions as Electronics Engineering Technicians. For those graduates interested in furthering their education, York Technical College and South Carolina State University have an articulation agreement in place which allows our Associate Degree graduates to earn their Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology degree from SC State right here at York Technical College. ENGINEERING GRAPHICS TECHNOLOGY

In the Engineering Graphics Technology program, students learn manual drafting skills as well as the utilization of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software to prepare detailed working diagrams of components and mechanical devices. Students obtain and apply these skills through classroom and hands-on computer lab instruction, and most take advantage of internships and cooperative learning experiences with local business and industry. Students graduating from the Engineering Graphics Diploma program are prepared for entry-level positions as Drafters, while those completing the Associate Degree in Engineering Graphics Technology are qualified to become Engineering Technicians specializing in drafting and design. Associate Degree graduates may also choose to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology. The Engineering Graphics Technology program is accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET.

INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE TECHNOLOGY

Manufacturing industries and other types of business facilities depend upon skilled technicians to install, maintain, and repair the very equipment that creates and/or houses their products. The Industrial Maintenance Technology program provides students with several options by which to prepare for entry-level employment in this field. Certificate graduates acquire specific short-term skills to qualify for Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship opportunities. Graduates of the Diploma and Degree programs obtain more diverse training and instruction, which qualifies them for positions such as Industrial Mechanics and Maintenance Technicians, Millwrights, or Industrial Electricians.

MACHINE TOOL TECHNOLOGY

Our Machine Tool Technology department offers training opportunities as they relate to the machining of tools and parts. The Machine Tool Technology diploma prepares students for a career as a Machinist using mainly manual equipment. The Machine Tool Technology Associate Degree prepares students with higher-level skills for a career as a Tool and Die Maker or CNC Machinist. The CNC Advanced Machinist Certificate provides the skills necessary to become a CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) Programmer.
