It’s no secret that getting a degree from York Technical College is one of the best educational values around, but many students begin their college careers with the added burden of trying to figure out how they’re going to pay for an education. York Tech financial aid experts say it doesn’t have to be that way.

Time and time again our financial aid staff meet students who are certain they don’t qualify; yet they receive hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars in federal grants, state aid, and scholarships.  Over 80 percent of our students—including 96 percent of our first-time freshman—receive some sort of financial assistance.

Apply for Financial Aid

Financial Aid can give you the tools to turn your dream of a college education into reality. To see if you qualify for financial aid, you need to start by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.gov. This national database, run by the government, will determine your eligibility for assistance, what kind, and how much.

Some of the assistance our students can take advantage of includes:

Grants – money you don’t have to pay back

Federal Pell Grants – $573 to $5,730 per year

South Carolina Need-Based Grant – up to $2,500 annually

Work Opportunities – work at York Tech while enrolled

Federal College Work Study – awarded on the basis of need and funds available; students currently earn $7.50-$8.50 per hour

Loans – money to be repaid with interest

Federal Direct Subsidized Loan

Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan

To learn more about any of these loan possibilities and how much you can borrow, schedule an appointment to see a Financial Aid Counselor or visit www.yorktech.edu.

If you attend York Tech, we recommend that you complete your FAFSA by June 1 each year. You can file as early as January!

Apply for Scholarships

The College offers over 100 scholarships for students and awards more than $100,000 each year. The majority of scholarships are awarded to students through the York Technical College Foundation. We encourage all students and parents to complete the FAFSA in order to be considered for these scholarship opportunities.

Here are some of the scholarships that may help you pay for college:

South Carolina LIFE Scholarship – up to the cost of tuition + $300 book allowance, not to exceed $5,000
