York Technical College is a proud partner of the Hive, a work-based learning cooperative and small business incubation program that launched in Old Town Rock Hill in 2011. The Hive serves real clients—local small businesses and non-profits—while using the work to teach York Tech and Winthrop University students practical skills in Internet marketing, web design & development—all under the watchful eye of professionals with RevenFlo, a Rock Hill-based web marketing company.

Dozens of York Tech General Business (Entrepreneurship specialization) and Digital Design students have gained valuable hands-on experience while working for real paying clients at the Hive. As a result, many of the students have walked straight into great jobs.

Other partners of the Hive—in addition to RevenFlo and the participating colleges—include Comporium Communications, the City of Rock Hill, and Becca & Harry Dalton.

Beyond the valuable training the students receive and the professional services the businesses receive, the Hive also serves to bring more energy and people to Old Town Rock Hill and prepares men and women for the new knowledge-based services economy—close to home. It’s a mission that is strongly aligned with the vision laid out by the City of Rock Hill’s Knowledge Park initiative, which is seeking to build a dynamic 21st century economy for the city while staying rooted to its rich history.
