Changing careers in today’s economy often means going back to college to learn new skills. York Technical College is the first place career changers turn, and not just because it’s a good value.

College for adult learners

York Tech has served adult learners for decades. We understand the challenges faced by older students who often have family and job responsibilities.

With affordable tuition, evening and online courses, and experience serving older students, York Tech is your best choice for gaining the skills and credentials you need to advance your career and enrich your life.

More support

York Tech embraces student learning as its primary and defining mission, and supports learning through small classes, free tutoring, instructional technology, and personal attention from faculty who know you by name. For many, York Tech is a better choice than a large university campus with its 200-seat lecture halls. Our small class sizes allow students to better connect with their instructors and get more one-on-one support.

Better value for your money

In these challenging economic times, getting the most value from your educational investment is more important than ever. Check the tuition and fees charged by the other institutions you may be considering and see if York Tech is your wisest investment for higher education. You’ll find that, with support from York, Chester and Lancaster Counties as well as the state of South Carolina, plus the College’s cost-efficient operations, York Tech’s tuition and fees are substantially less expensive than four-year institutions and private colleges.

Courses to fit your schedule

You understand that college could help your career and enrich your life. But can it fit into your busy life? York Tech knows you have other obligations, so we offer classes in several formats to accommodate adult lives.

For those with traditional 9-to-5 jobs, York Tech offers an extensive lineup of evening classes. In fact, many of our evening classes begin after 6 p.m. Some classes are even designed to only meet a couple of days per week, saving commuting expenses and minimizing the disruption of your daily routine.

Online courses provide the most flexibility and control over your time.  While course assignments will usually have hard deadlines, you control when and where you do the work. Many students take advantage of our online course options to be able to take more classes and fit York Tech into their daily lives.

Another format attractive to adult learners is the hybrid course, which combines online learning with occasional campus classroom meetings. A common format has the class meeting on campus one night every-other week, with web assignments in between. You get much of the convenience of an online course, but with the reassurance and benefits of periodic face-to-face interaction with faculty and classmates.

Career starters and career changers

York Tech offers a number of two-year degree programs to prepare you for immediate entry into a career. Many of these programs also offer one-year certificates, and even shorter-term letters of recognition.

In addition to degree-credit programs, the College’s continuing education and training resources offer multiple ways to get training for entry-level positions that don’t require a degree.

Financial aid is available

Although York Tech offers your most affordable higher education option, many may find paying for college a challenge. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.ed.gov as the first step in exploring your financial aid options.

Through its Foundation, York Tech also provides scholarship assistance to students. Scholarship awards are based on the availability of funds and eligibility requirements of each scholarship.

So, whether you are going back to school or choosing a new career path, York Tech can be your first step in making a difference in your future. Don’t wait, continue your education today! Visit www.yorktech.edu for more information.

York Tech Was My First Choice

It is easy to read about the opportunities non-traditional students have by turning to two-year colleges to continue their education. However, there is nothing like hearing from someone who has actually experienced it. Meet Aleksandra Ejgird, a York Technical College student from Poland, who has lived in the United States for almost 11 years.

In the years leading up to entering her Radiologic Technology program, she took general education classes to work toward her degree. She is currently halfway through her program.

Ejgird says York Tech was her first choice because of the convenience and in-state tuition. She expressed how appreciative she was of the staff that helped answer her questions when she visited the college for the first time. “I didn’t know where to start, this was my first time going to college in a foreign country. One of the ladies in Admissions walked me through every step I needed to start my education. After that, I decided that this school is a perfect place for me,” Ejgird said.

Aleksandra wasted no time diving into her classes and getting involved on campus.  She serves as a York Tech Student Ambassador, which means she is responsible for promoting the College’s image, stimulating student interest in campus activities and helping to increase loyalty and commitment to the institution.

“As a mature adult it’s a little harder to walk away from a full-time job and paycheck to follow your dreams. Through the scholarships, helpful faculty and staff and financial aid that I received here, everything became possible.”

If Aleksandra can do it, you can too. Taking the first step is always the most difficult, but once you do, you won’t regret it.
